Jada Marie Upshaw, of Bloomfield in Hartford County, was killed around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, in Rocky Hill, Connecticut State Police said.
The crash happened when a BMW — for seemingly no reason — veered into a neighboring lane and cashed into Upshaw's Nissan near Exit 23 in the southbound lanes, a police report said.
Upshaw's SUV and the BMW tumbled down the highway, and the sedan slammed into a third car, police said.
Upshaw's Nissan landed on its roof.
Paramedics took Upshaw to Hartford Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. The passenger in her car and the driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.
Jacob Daniel Texidor, 23, of New Britain, who was behind the wheel of the BMW, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said, but more charges are likely forthcoming.
A judge ordered him held on a $50,000 bond, authorities said
The crash remains under investigation. Police ask anyone who saw it or has dash camera video of the incident to contact Trooper Michael Dean at 860-534-1098 or by email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
